Lookin At Lucky not-so-lucky at Haskell draw

Holding Her Ground led gate-to-wire in winning Thursday's $59,000 feature by 1 lengths at Del Mar. Ridden by Christian Santiago Reyes, Holding Her Ground ran six furlongs in 1:09.65 and paid $54, $20.40 and $4.40 as the longest shot in the field of six older fillies and mares at 26-1. Fund Raiser returned $4.20 and $2.80 as the 9-5 favorite, while Heartless Vixen paid $3 to show.

Beau Choix wore down Lonesome Street and Lighthouse Sound in the stretch to win the $70,000 Quick Call Stakes for 3-year-olds by a head Thursday at Saratoga. Javier Castellano rode Beau Choix for trainer Barclay Tagg, covering a mile over a firm turf course in 1:35.57 to earn $42,000 for owners Belle Meadow Farm and Lael Stable.
Pa. racetrack trainer accused of doping horses

A Pennsylvania horse trainer was charged Wednesday with trying to rig races at Penn National Race Course by injecting horses with performance-enhancing drugs. State police charged Darryl Delahoussaye, 47, of Harrisburg, with rigging a publicly exhibited contest, administering drugs to race horses, tampering with evidence and theft.
Belmont winner Drosselmeyer out for year

Belmont Stakes winner Drosselmeyer is recovering from an ankle injury that has sidelined the 3-year-old colt for the rest of the year. The racing manager for the farm that owns Drosselmeyer said Tuesday the injury was discovered about a month after the colt's three-quarter length win in the Belmont on June 5.
Santa Anita begins repairs to synthetic surface

Santa Anita has begun repair work on its troubled synthetic surface that failed to drain properly during the winter-spring meet. The track closed last Sunday to training for the first time in two years, and repair work began Monday on the Pro-Ride surface along with planned maintenance to the stable area.

Maybesomaybenot led from gate to wire to win the $150,000 Sanford Stakes for 2-year-olds Sunday at Saratoga Race Course. Julien Leparoux rode Maybesomaybenot, who ran six furlongs in 1:10.97 and was 1 1/2 lengths clear of Nacho Saint. Another Silver Oak was third of seven. Favored Bail Out the Cat was eliminated at the start when he broke awkwardly and well behind the field.
Rachel Alexandra wins the Lady's Secret

Rachel Alexandra kept cool on a wilting afternoon at Monmouth Park, defeating six rivals Saturday in the $400,000 Lady's Secret Stakes for fillies and mares. It was the second straight win for the reigning Horse of the Year following a pair of losses to start the season. Rachel Alexandra beat the heat, in addition to the competition, as temperatures pushed into the upper 90s.
Valenzuela to return next week at Del Mar

Patrick Valenzuela could return to riding in California as soon as next Wednesday. The 47-year-old jockey with a lengthy history of alcohol and substance abuse was granted a probationary license on Thursday by the California Horse Racing Board. The same group revoked his license in 2008 after Valenzuela was arrested for drunken driving.
